The Sundance Channel is hosting a new program in which two famous people talk on each other. One person is really emphasized but both can be considered 'icons' in their own right.
The first episode RJ and I watched was Mario Battali on Michael Stipe. Apparently, the unlikely pair are friends and have a very high regard for each other. It was really interesting to hear Michael Stipe talk, he seems a man at peace with himself and with his situation. He loves Mario's food (who wouldn't) and is a huge U2 fan. During the show he flew himself and Mario to a U2 show in Toronto where they hung around backstage and danced like mad to Beautiful Day.
Last night's episode was Robert Redford on Paul Newman. These two seem the consumate buddy team and after all of these years , and not seeing each other for over a year, they fall into the comfortable position of dear friends. Both funny and touching, this portrait showed a side of Paul Newman that perhaps few know about. We all know that he has the Newman line of foods, but did you realize that every profit goes to charity and that thus far he's raised over $200 million? He has camps for ill children all over the world and the kicker is that the kids get to go for free. He and Joanne Woodward also renovated their historic community theatre in New England. Both men were charming and genuine and a credit to their craft.
Next up: Samuel L. Jackson on Bill Russell.

A very cool show. It is nice to see these celebrities are real people. I really liked the Redford/Newman episode. Hopefully the show will continue in the future.
