Amos Lee. A couple months ago he opened for Dylan here in Buffalo. His live set was great. His album is even better. The album is much more spare than his live performance, mainly an acoustic-based album. Check out Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight; Arms of a Woman; Black River; All My Friends...well, to be honest, there is not a weak song on the album. Released on Blue Note. Buy it.

NP: The Dresden Dolls
An interesting group (actually, a man and woman) who's music makes you think of Germany in the 30's somehow. Very Cabaret, in a dark sense. Elements of drama and lovely piano parts throughout add to the quiet moments and loud rocking as well. Worth a listen.

...with echoes of Pink Floyd's The Wall thrown in too. The Dresden Dolls played at the HOB here recently. I am sorry now we missed them. We did not hear their cd until just this weekend. Our friend Trikrona saw them and said they put on a good show.

My pal at work turned me onto a great little bluegrass band that she had the fortune of seeing this summer.
The Greencards are a 3 piece band that produces a sound like a bluegrass extravaganza! Check out their cd Movin' On --- it will take you back to the roots of a lot of today's music. Gotta love the bouzouki, fiddle, mandolin and viola together!

Ok, I think you've convinced me that Molly Bloom is a band to follow, Preston!! I hope you're feeling better, I didn't know you were ill. I'm going under the knife next week, I'll be thinking of you and wishing you the very best! Someone who loves music as much as you needs a proper working ear, wouldn't you say?
