THis morning we listened to the Charlie Hunter Trio for the first time. A delicious combo of jazz and funk, their Friends Seen and Unseen is a mind-blowing explosion! Reminiscent of Stanton Moore, CHT deserves a listen.

<snniiiffff> Ah... I love that new weboard smell! I've been listening to: Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here Did ya hear that a movie about Mr. Syd Crazy Diamond is coming to our Fair Land? QUOTE: Although nearly two years behind, the edifying documentary Pink Floyd & the Syd Barrett Story is finally making its way to the U.S. and Canada. First airing in 2002 on BBC television and then being released in the UK and Australia as a DVD, the movie will finally make it to these shores on November 16. www.filter-mag.com/news/interior.1810.html Further, I have been listening to the King Crimson Boxed Set, The Great Deceiver. And I've been burning this Indian, goolike, opium smelling stuff called Dhoop while I listen to Eno's ambient musics: Discreet Music Neroli Apollo and On Land.

Drool! OMG, I LOVE Syd!! I've always wondered what Floyd would been like had he not flipped his nut. Have you seen the Syd website? www.sydbarrett.netYou can see how he looked then and how he looks now. Scary! Do all English men go bald? Where does one purchase Dhoop? The Dhooporium?

Welcome, Preston! Should I be getting into Herbie Mann? A couple of people have mentioned him to me lately. If so, where's a good place to start?

I'm listening to Ricky Scaggs "Bluegrass Rules!"
This is probably the best bluegrass CD to come out in the last 8 years.

When he came out on the stage I didn't recognize him because his hair was short! You're right, he's a phenomenal musician and seemed like a really nice fella to boot.

If any of you like blues guitarist you may want to check out the latest from Duke Robillard "Blue Mood". He was one of the founding members of Roomful of Blues. This cd is all covers of T-Bone Walker songs. Very cool.

Hi I Just "discovered" some new-old stuff that I never even considered before, but I spent all of last week driving around the Alps of Switzerland with a pile of CD's that I purchased in grocery stores along the way solely for the purpose of providing the background music to my sojourns. Here's what I was listening to (some of this stuff is quite good!) : The Moody Blues - Strange Times Mark Knopfler - Shangri La Concert for George - A celebration of the life and music of George Harrison Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing (The very best of..) Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - 4 Way Street Joe Cocker - Heart & Soul Dave Swarbrick - Folk on BBC2 (this one is for you Kram!) Crosby Stills & Nash - (that's the name of the CD) Jethro Tull - Stormwatch Remastered (sounds just like the other Stormwatch CD that I have - only this one has more songs on it).
In the "newly-discovered-(or acquired)-good-stuff department I rank the following gems: Strawbs - Hero and Heroine Acoustic Strawbs - Baroque & Roll Fairport Convention - Cropredy Capers box set (25 years of the Cropredy festival) The Home Service - Light Programme Transmissions The Albion Christmas Band - An Albion Christmas Steeleye Span - The called her Babylon Blackmore's Night - Beyond the Sunset Crosby & Nash - (that's the title) Richard Thompson - Amnesia Gillian Welch - Soul Journey Chris Leslie - Dancing days

WOW what a collection!! You have some great cds there, seems a nice relaxing collection for traveling. Is that Mark Knopfler a new one? How is the Concert for George? Chris Leslie can dance with me anytime, especially if he brings his own fiddle!

yep! that's the latest Mark Knopfler, good stuff indeed! The concert for George (which I also have on DVD) is one of the finest tribute concerts ever - more great stuff! Expect a small package from me in the mail one of these days O'Kelp.... (I'll keep you informed)

Today I have been listening to the latest from Green Day "American Idiot". It is hard to believe it has been 10 years since their major label debut "Dookie". Their musical growth really shines on this one. The best part is it is an album. By that I mean it is meant to be taken as a whole and not just a collection of songs. There is a definite theme and story arc. Oh, and they still rock

Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson and Israeli Aviv Geffen have joined forces to create Blackfield. I was lucky enough to receive their self-titled cd for Festivus and I have to say that it's really great!
A great combo of acoustic and electric sounds, Blackfield takes their haunting lyrics to the max to show you that Steven Wilson has done it once again.
Can't wait for the new PT cd in March!
