I figured I'd start a thread here. I'm well into season 4 of Buffy, and I watched the first disc of Angel. Buffy is, of course, fantastic. But I wasn't that impressed with Angel. It seemed a bit one dimensional to me. Does it get any better? Should I bother?

Angel gets much better! The first season was a little rough as they tried to figure out how to make it different than Buffy. Season 4 was my least favorite. I did not like the overall storyline for the year. Season 5 rocks! It really finishes on a high note and the last episode is one of my favorite series finales ever.

I'll give Angel another go. I like Buffy so much because it really deals with issues of high school, late adolescence, the uncertainties of going to college, first love, etc. The vampire stuff is secondary. I haven't found that Angel hit a groove--the characters just seem thrown together. What is Cordelia's real motivation to work for Angel? She wants to be an actress; this obviously isn't the route. And the other guy? Is his role just to see visions and lust after Cordelia?
Of course I've only given it 4 episodes so I'm probably being unduly harsh.

Yes, oddly enough the last season of Angel is by far the best season. I can't think of any other shows you can say that about!!
Stu: DO NOT start to watch the last season of Angel before you finish the ENTIRE last season of Buffy, you'll spoil the Buffy finale for yourself and you don't want to do that. Plus, Angel won't make as much sense. You might want to look at when the seasons of each show were first aired and time it that way because there are some crossovers in both shows. Not a lot but I think you'll get more out of the shows if you do that. But take my advice, you don't want to ruin the Buffster for yourself!!!
After you finish the first season of Angel I'll tell ya what happens to Doyle. The best episode of that season I think is the one in Cordelia's apartment.
4th season of Buffy, is that the college years? That's an interesting one that I really disliked when it was first on but I grew fond of later. Buffy goes through some personality changes that I thought were out of character but actually, it just enhances the character that she portrays. And that season contains at least 2 of my fave Buffy episodes of all time, when you're done with the season let us know and we'll discuss them. Which episode are you on?
Max -- you have to get caught up on Buffy when you return!

Yeah Stubedoo, definetely watch Angel in tandem with Buffy during the corresponding seasons. RJ just pointed out to me that there are some crossovers that won't make any sense if you watch Angel first and could ruin Buffy for ya, you don't want to do that!!

Okay, so I'll finish Season 4 of Buffy and then watch Season 1 of Angel.

I just hope that Joss can keep his creativity up. His last big project was Serenity, which was a good movie, but a financial flop. He was doing Wonder Woman, but that fizzled. Now he's doing Buffy comic books. I'm hoping that he hasn't peaked and we've seen the best of him come and go.

So Stubedoo.... Where are you in the Buffy lexicon now? I just finished the second disc of Season 4. So far it's not as good as Season 3, but people tell me to hang on and keep going. Stubedoo

Stick with it, Stu! Hush and A New Man are two of the best Buffy episodes in the entire series.
Wasn't the Halloween episode fun? "Yeah, yeah, yeah..." SPLAT!
