Last week Mr. Jack and I watched the Old Grey Whistle Test dvd. It was great and we were able to see some now famous performers in their very early days. Elton John performed Tiny Dancer, a very young Tom Petty sang American Girl and a big-haired U2 performed I Will Follow. The most surprising of the performances was that of XTC --- they were so young they were basically unrecognizable and it's funny to know how much their sound would evolve.
There were some great interviews on the dvd and the John Lennon one was one of the best I've ever seen. It was a nice long interview and Lennon was certainly at ease whilst discussing things like his relationship with Paul, the ever-interesting drama of working with Phil Spectator, life in NYC and his tender concern for Ringo. I will say this about Lennon --- he always told it like it was and this presentation is certainly no exception. A gem.

I like the new David Gilmour DVD. That's cool, we have the Roger Waters dvd. I understand that Gilmour 'takes care of' Syd. That's very, very cool in my book. Gilmour always looks a little crusty but I'm sure he's a pussycat at heart.

We will have to check out the David Gilmour dvd. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by the Roger Waters one. Has anyone heard anything about them getting back together for a couple of Pink Floyd concerts? Shutter Girl's nephew told me he heard they were. That would be something I would love to see. I never had the chance to see them play. The only Floyd concert I saw was the one right after Waters left. It was good, but I missed his vocals.

I like the new David Gilmour DVD. I've heard good things about the Gilmour DVD. Perhaps something to add to my Kwanza list. MQ

... I never had the chance to see them play. The only Floyd concert I saw was the one right after Waters left. It was good, but I missed his vocals. I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd back on the Dark Side and Animals tours in Los Angeles many years ago. The shows were absolutely stunning musically, but the band had the stage presence of a box of rocks. I never got to see Floyd after Waters left, but their DVD of some years ago appeared to show a much more relaxed and fun show. The band was obviously having a great time! I saw David G. on his "About Face" tour back in the 1980s, and he put on a terrific show. Again, he was having fun and was MUCH different than I'd seen him with Pink Floyd. As talented as Roger W. is, I think he is really a 'downer' sort of person to work/tour with. It just seems like everyone has fun when he's not around, and everyone is very serious when he is. Regards, ZD

I actually prefer David Gilmour's voice to Roger Waters. I saw Floyd in the Division Bell tour and enjoyed it but swore that it would be the last stadium concert I'd ever go to. (I ended up being dragged to one more--the Stones).
Gilmour has a new DVD out, came out a year or two ago, actually, that is awesome.
I think there are Roger Waters fans, and then there are the rest of us.

Sorry, I didn't see the previous posts about the Gilmour DVD.
What do you mean that David takes care of Syd. I know Syd went nuts, but where is he and how is he taking care of him?
BTW, "Wish You Were Here" is an album that was made as an homage to Syd. It's Gilmour's favorite album.

Kram,
You MUST obtain a copy of Giant on the Box - the Gentle Giant DVD. I just watched 90% of it - and I am full of energy, excitement. What a great reminder of how talented, creative, and versatile they were. It also reminded how lucky I am to have witnessed a variety of their performances over the years. Kram - go get it!
