Last night I went to a party in a beautiful home. The hostess was the recently retired assistant to our library director. She lives in a very modern, very large one floor cluster home that is shaped like a huge square with a lovely Japanese couryard in the middle. She took me on a tour of the house and showed me her art and mod furniture.
When we came to the living room I stopped and laughed at what I saw --- among all of her ultra contemporary furnishings was an old card catalog. She smiled and said, "Pull open a drawer." Lurking inside the drawers that once held index cards full of subjects, authors and titles were bottles of wine! I loved it, what a great use of this library artifact!
We traveled onto her bedroom (and I have to say that she has a huge amount of storage space!) and she opened her closet door. We stood there, mouths agape, looking at a ceiling to floor built in wine rack. This lady loves her wine!
