FROM THE EVER-POPULAR NATURE SERIES FOR THE YOUNG
OK folks, I have just discovered how to plaster a picture (or a few pictures) onto a 'GE' post (beware!!!), so in honour of the occasion, I shall provide you all with a pictorial essay titled: "The astonishing world of domestic bugs"...... read on, look at the pictures and see just how astonishing their world really is.......!
1) On any given summer evening, if you keep a careful lookout, you may just be lucky enough to see a group of domestic bugs on a rare family outing with their young ones in tow. Here is just such an event. Notice how the elders of this particular bug family stay mostly around the outer flanks of the group, this is to ensure the safety and well being of the infant-bugs, and to protect the entire family from their most feared and hated enemy; the Tadorna Sheldrake!!!!!
2) See in this next picture, how the women of the family tend to congregate in small discussion groups. They are in fact gossiping and exchanging tidbits of information about those unfortunate members of the family who were not able to attend this little outing. If you look carefully you will see the expressions of disgust and/or delight as particularly juicy items of information are shared by the more knowing members of the group.
3) The male domestic bug, who is the bread-earner and provider of the family, is concerned with the more serious issues of the day and has no time or inclination for idle chatter. Here you can see some of the males of the family as they discuss the ever-rising price of petrol with deep concern! See the look of deep concern on their faces...
4) The family is now heading towards home. It will be some time before they venture out like this again as they do not like to take chances and will refrain from exposing themselves needlessly to those who might wish them harm. Once they have made sure that no one is missing, they pick up their odd morsels, droppings and belongings and march back to their abode.
And that dear kiddies, is it! another chapter in our delightful nature series..... wasn't this astonishing!!!!
