I have a 1989 Volvo with 229,000 miles on it that we have put over $5000 worth of work in the last three years. Finally, I got sick of it and started shopping for a new car. I agnonized for weeks--do I buy a used nice car (like an Infiniti) for cheap or a new car. I decided that an Infiniti simply wasn't my style so I ended up buying a new Camry Hybrid with the computerized GPS navigation system. It's way geeky--now THAT'S my style. Dark blue, if anybody is interested.

Oh yeah, Stubedoo!!! You went the hippie route, I'm so proud of you!! So how do you like it? Does it run well? Can you tell it's a hybrid when you're driving it? What is the gas mileage like? We'll get a new car this year, too....

We'll get a new car this year, too.... The one thing you notice is how amazingly quiet it is. Otherwise it drives just like a normal car. I don't know what kind of milage it gets since I'm still on my first tank of gas!

RJ and I purchased a new car yesterday! We went into a dealership to look at a Hyundai Sonata and ended up going into the Volkwagen dealership by mistake. So while there we decided to look at a Jetta -- we test drove one, nice! Then the dealer mentioned that she had a 2006 Passat with only 7,000 miles on it. Apparently an airline pilot had it but recently had hip surgery and had to give it up because he had a hard time getting in and out of it. We test drove it and I loved it! It's a seafoam green (sort of a light silver/green) with a beige leather interior. The things loaded: Heated seats (yum!), heated mirrors, 6 cd changer, satellite radio capability. The ignition is really something, the key is an electronic device which you stick into the ignition and then just push to start. She drives like a dream and has a smoother ride than the Jetta. She was made in the Volvo factory in Germany and is basically a Volvo. We get her Wednesday, can't wait! Stubedoo, how are you liking your new car?

Of course, in my case, I was replacing a car that was 17 years old with 228,000 miles on it so I was just this short of ecstatic. The Jetta is a fun car, my friend has one. My car is great, although all the displays make you really obsessive about gas mileage. At the moment I'm getting 36 mpg on this tank. It's a really geeky car--lots of computer read outs, navigation displays, voice commands, etc. I haven't scratched the surface of it yet. --Stubedoo
