Did anybody (Imagemaker??) ever play the game Titan? It was made by Avalon Hill who went out of business. It was a fabulous board game with chits and dice.
Anyway, it's out of print, but there are a couple of online versions that I've been enjoying.

I've played it a couple times. It was interesting, but I'd have had to play it several more times to have a real handle on strategy (read: I lost a lot).
I'd play it again, if I could find a few other folks locally to play with, or I'd look at an online version (got a link?)...

Here is a link to a Java game that you can play on your own computer. I use it for reference and play it when I'm bored--you can play against the computer. You can play it online with human opponents, but it's real time, in that you have to be online with the other person playing it. colossus.sourceforge.net/Here is an online game that I'm playing. It's limited in that it's ASCII format, but it allows you to play a game over a number of weeks. You have to know the game in order to play it. acts.warhorsesim.com/ttn.aspI play with people who are WAY better than me and I always lose.

Cool, I'll look over the Java version. I don't have a set, so it'd be a little tricky playing with someone on a traditional "play by mail" basis (and even if I had a set, I have no place to leave it out and a game set up).
Meanwhile, I should set up an eBay search, maybe I can get a set without paying an arm and a leg...

I actually was curious myself and did an ebay search and a used one was going for about 40 bucks with a couple of days left in the auction, and a brand new one (in shrink wrap) was going for over $100.

But if you want, after you get used to the Java version a little bit, I can set up one on the ASCII site and you and I can play a two person game. That's actually what I did with another friend of mine--he smeared me.

Better double check the one that was going for $40 -- that was Titan: The Arena, a completely different game. But yep, $100 to $150 for Titan on eBay... I downloaded the Java one, I'll look it over, play a few games against the AI, and see where we get to from there. I suppose I could use that as a setup for the other one; not sure how it'd handle content of stacks and combats without knowing what's in the stacks from the start. Worst case, I suppose I could just print myself a set based on the Java game, then I just have to find a place to put it...

There is a function in one of the drop down menus where you can see the whole mustering chart at once, and I use that. If you decide you want to try playing an ASCII game email Shutter Girl, Repairman Jack, or Max. One of them can give you my email address.

You mean these? Moondog Ale from the ever so lovely Great Lakes Brewing Company! A hoppy ale with a bit of a malty finish. 4.5 stars. GL used to bottle it and we would buy it like nuts. Apparently no one else did, they now only offer it on tap during the summer... how very sad!

Interesting place for a beer thread...
Very tasty is Moondog. Great Lakes decided to make Commodore Perry a year round beer instead of a seasonal. Since it is an IPA also they decided to make Moondog a seasonal draft only available at Great Lakes. I am happy to have the CP year round, but disappointed to only have Moondog on tap at Great Lakes for a short time. I guess you win some and lose some in the beer availibility wars....

I think I was unclear -- isn't the Java game going to have (at least potentially) different stack makeup from the ongoing ASCII one? Seems to me that'd be the case after a combat (dice used, right?), even if I'm misremembering recruiting as including a random factor...
