Just got back from the show. Fantastic!!!! If you have never seen them play live I strongly urge anyone to make the effort to see them. Three great guitarists displaying their craft. What a joy to see. I have the strongest urge to pick up a guitar and play right now! I just wish I had a guitar and had any clue how to play.
I can't help but think of the vocal groups with great harmony when I see CGT. The Mamas and Papas come to mind with the way they had such great harmonies on vocals. CGT is the same, but they do it with guitars! It is amazing how they interweave different guitar parts and make it sound just incredible. Again I say go out and see this band!!! You will not regret it.
As a side note I was surprised by the number of Porcupine Tree fans at the show. I wore a PT sweatshirt and was stopped by a lot of people who are fans. Amazing! PT FANS ROCK!

Yes, The CGT put on a wonderful show! The gentlemen of the acoustic brought their lush sound to the Beachland once again with a stunning performance. One of the things that always fascinates me about these musicians is that they basically don't make any mistakes, which is really saying something because their parts are so very complex. Last night they brought us some great selections from Whitewater including the title track, The Marsh, the merry Cosmo Calypso and Ghost Riders on the Storm. Kannon Power from their work with Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto was extremely powerful as Paul explained Hideyo's idea of the Zen solitude behind the song. Other great pieces of the evening included a Bach piece and a lovely Beethoven Pastoral that was arranged by Bert and only had been played on stage a total of three times. Gorgeous! No one does covers quite the way the CGT can pull them off and Classical Gas and Bohemian Rhapsody were both a joy. For the last song of the encore the boys unplugged and came out into the audience for an acoustic song. The head of Bert's guitar was inches from my face and it was a pleasure to watch his fingerwork up close and personal. All in all, a great night of music presented by some of the most talented acoustic guitarists in the world. One of the things that struck me last night was the individual roles each of the musicians play to make the band a whole. Bert is the classical guitarist, a finger picking genius. His pointy toed boots played those peddles to perfection. Paul brings the blues twist with his great rhythym and slide playing. Hideyo is the consumate student of Fripp and produces sounds from his guitar that are both ethereal and surreal. Put these three masters together and the product is one of power and grace. My nephew Ryan joined us last night for the show, he's in a few bands and plays electric bass and an acoustic guitar. He had never seen the CGT live and was awestruck by their power and performance. After the show we spoke with Bert about playing and the Breedlove experience. The last time I saw them he and Paul convinced me to buy a Breedlove. I purchased an Atlas series piece, now I want ont of their concert guitars! Ok, guess I have to play this one first... It was a special night and we're so glad we got to share it with our beloved nephew. Later the three of us mosied down to the resale shop on the bottom floor of the Beachland where I purchased a real (yes, from the 60's!) black Nehru jacket and a whole men's suit that actually fit me. I'm a 5 foot tall woman and I can't even find a suit in the women's department that's small enough for me, what are the odds that I'd find one here? Ryan picked up a gorgeous silver cigarette case. So if you're in the Beachland, please stop by this shop, it's a goldmine in vintage clothing and albums. A special shout out to Reed the lovely female stick bass player (go grrl!) and Barry, Porcupine Tree fan extraordinnaire. Nice to meet you both!

RJ and SG,
Thanks for the reviews of the CGT show. I think I need to strongly consider attending their show in my area in a couple weeks. Hopefully I'll have the energy after a couple busy days right before it.
