I also got to make the trip to the grocery store which means I missed part of the music fest I agree on Snow Patrol being a new fav for me. It is getting major time in the cd player lately.

Been listening to....
Straight Up by Badfinger. The gold version of this disc has outtakes and most of them have a full orchestra in the background. I'm so glad they didn't end up going that way! Their sound was raw but pure and they didn't ever need anything other than what they were. George plays guitar in many of these songs --- it's magical and one of the greatest albums ever made.
Todd Rundgren produced this, I wonder how much he had to do with the orchestration? Was it his idea, the band's or Mal Evans?

On the CD player in my car coming home from skiing on Thursday we listened to Dream Theatre, "Scenes From a Memory." Until the CD player broke, that is.

The Pogues - Fairytale of New York from If I Should Fall From Grace With God. Triggered by a recent conversation with a new acquaintance.

The Pogues were here last year and filmed a show for PBS at the Cleveland Agora. Has anyone seen that show? Our friend Jon is a big fan.
Does anyone like Soft Machine? Ric Sanders, Fairport Convention's fiddle master, recently told us he was in Soft Machine for a few years. I've always thought them to be sort of the precursor of bands like Ozric Tentacles and Dream Theatre.
I love OT and would love to see them live sometime.

A sampler of the band The Damned, kindly given to me by my pal Keith.
It's a heady mix of The Smiths and XTC, two great bands. Love it!
Also, Side One by Adrian Belew. Adrian's new album will surely cure what ails you. Better review forthcoming....

And I have Jethro Tull Live (the latest remastered album). A most excellent recording.

Just got in the mail the remastered Caravan "In the Land of Grey and Pink," arguably my favorite and most listened to album of all time.

Just got in the mail the remastered Caravan "In the Land of Grey and Pink," arguably my favorite and most listened to album of all time. That's quite a statement, Stu! I like Caravan too, but I only have a sampler that was given to me a few years back. I take it this is the album to get then? On Friday I had a ConstruKction of Light fest. Beginning the weekend with King Crimson is always a glorious thing.

Grey and Pink is an awesome album. I can't imagine listening to a Caravan sampler because each album has a specific musical theme, and some songs last for more than 20 minutes or more.
The other big Caravan albums are "For Girls Who Grow Plump In The Night" "If I Can Do It All Over Again I'd Do It All Over You" and "Waterloo Lily"
But Grey and Pink is my favorite.

How can you beat titles like those? They must be great!

How can you beat titles like those? They must be great! There's also "Cunning Stunts" and "Blind Dog at St. Dunstans" . They are good, but not as good as the other four. I would recommend Caravan in this order: Grey and Pink Plump Waterloo Lily If I could do it... Blind Dog Cunning Stunts. There are other albums as well. They actually just came out with one last year. I bought a signed pre-release of it that had a bonus live disc.

Oh and one more thing. If you go Caravan shopping, be sure to get only the ones I mentioned. There are a lot of cut out and compliation albums out there. Also, all the major albums have been remastered so be sure to look for those instead.

Thanks for the tip, Stu! Today in the car.... Curious Riff, disc 1. I love this disc for great music, witty commentary and overall energy. It's too bad Tull didn't release more live albums, you know they're sitting on them!

King Crimson's Live in Warsaw, 6/11/00 - This 2 disc set is a tour de force of one of my fave KC albums, The ConstruKction of Light. Included in the mix are great renditions of Dinosaur, the haunting One Time, Three of a Perfect Pair and wonderful cover of David Bowies, Heroes. I love Heroes and Adrian's dramatic voice makes it even more delicious. He was Bowie's guitarist and it shows --- he surpasses the master with this one.
