I don't watch much TV, mostly because 98% of what's on is crap. But, there are a few very high quality shows that I like to watch Smallville--extremely well written although the romance gets a little schmaltzy at times. Star Trek--poorly written but getting better. As a Trekker from way back I have to watch it. 24--I never saw the 1st season, and the second season was good. The third season was a big disappointment. I'm hoping that the 4th season will have a rennaissance. Scrubs--the only hospital show I like. South Park. Love it. Also, I was telling Annette, I'm catching up on old Stargate episodes. My favorite TV show of all time is The Prisoner.

My favorite TV show of all time is The Prisoner. OMG it's hard to find anyone who loves The Prisoner! Don't you think that IA's balloon thang at the end of Tull shows is an homage to the Prisoner? #6 would be proud! Some of my faves: Buffy - Love it! Some of the most intelligent and hilarious dialogue ever written for a TV show. Angel isn't bad, either. Sex and the City - outrageous and laugh out loud funny! It's so real, it's scary. I cried like a baby during the entire last episode. The Sopranos - I refused to watch this for a long time because I thought the idea of a show surrounding a Mafia family was so negative. Are you kidding? This thing works, baby! Northern Exposure - quirky characters in a gorgeous setting. Who can ask for anything more? M*A*S*H - Never missed an episode when it was on. Cried hysterically when Henry died in the helicopter crash. Cried even more when Maclean Stevenson died in real life. The X-Files - That's right, I'm a sucker for Mulder and Scully. I've always been fascinated with the unknown and this show clinched it for me. Trust no one. Picket Fences - David R. Kelley's first attempt at TV stardom. Quirky characters, intelligent dialog and twisty plotlines --- who could ask for anything more? Freaks and Geeks - perhaps the best TV series ever, had it been on cable instead of NBC it would still be on air. This is the story of my teen years... in a nutshell. And oh yeah.... I'm a trekker, too!! Q rocks, man.

I splurged and bought the Prisoner box set.
I heard Buffy had excellent writing. By the time I heard this, though, it was on its way out. I saw a couple of episodes but never got into it.
I don't have HBO so I never got into the Sopranos. I could get the DVDs but I'm already trying to get through one series (Stargate). I don't need two. I heard that 6 feet under is also excellent.
I saw a couple of episodes of Sex and the City. I thought the vagina jokes were cute the first time, but after the fifth or sixth I got a little tired of them.
Freaks and Geeks was a good show, you're right. I have the series on queue in my Netflix list. I thought it was much better than it's cousin, the That's 70's show.

Freaks and Geeks was a good show, you're right. I have the series on queue in my Netflix list. I thought it was much better than it's cousin, the That's 70's show. You're right, and it's also way better than the 'critically acclaimed' My So-Called Life. The reason Freaks and Geeks was cancelled was that it featured an episode about smoking pot. One of the main characters, Lindsey, tried smoking pot for the first time on her own and ended up freaking out and scaring the crap out of herself, vowing never to do it again. Of course, the censors at NBC only paid attention to the fact that she smoked pot at all rather than the point that she ended up knowing it was a bad idea. Intelligence in action, eh? The reason that show is so good has much to do with the fact that they've nailed high school during those years dead on. I was in high school during that time and can name you people I knew in high school that are portrayed by the actors in the show. It's almost scary! Apatow captured the confusion of the teen years to a T --- and with every single main character on that show. No stone was left unturned in the short run. It's a thing of beauty. The last episode was nominated for an Emmy. Idiot networks.

My favorite TV show of all time is The Prisoner. I have a video copy of The Prisoner series, but have only been through the first two shows so far. The Prisoner is some weird shit - that's for sure. Stu, you are just full of surprises. MQ

Related to this - and to Stubedoo's comment about Buffy in comic books in another forum, nice NPR piece this morning about the interesting variety of folks beginning to enter the graphic novel/comic book writing scene - with Buffy prominently featured. MQ Well, in Joss Whedon's case, it was more of a point of he needed income.
