Ok, we've established that we're all geeks (!) so.... What's your favorite fantasy film?Come on, you can admit it's Beastmaster... I won't tell anyone.

I've seen Beastmaster more than twice... All three Lord of the Rings movies have to rank up there.

I've seen Beastmaster more than twice... All three Lord of the Rings movies have to rank up there. I've never heard of Beastmaster. What does that make me? I've still yet to see Return of the King. I'm striking out here, eh? MQ

I think my favorite fantasy film would have to be Labyrinth, with David Bowie as the evil wizard. Not a sword in the whole film, as I recall, but plenty of sorcery, and Bowie was *excellent*...
I enjoyed the LOTR movies, too, enough to pay out to see all three on big screen despite budget constraints when they came out. Never saw Dark Crystal, and didn't think all that much of Willow. Haven't seen all of Dragonheart, either.
I think behind Labyrinth, however, it's probably a tie between Excalibur (1981 Arthurian costume piece) and Dragonslayer (roundly panned by a lot of those who claim to understand film and fantasy, but still good fun and with a surprisingly effective twist ending), with Heavy Metal (1981, animated) in hot pursuit.

loved Dragonslayer too, Imagemaker! Picking a fave is really, really tough.... I think LOTR is a gimme. Honestly, how can you get better than the cinematics of that film. I'm thinking of other fantasies I've enjoyed:
13th Warrior Princess Bride (does that qualify as a fairy tale instead?) The Harry Potter films Reign of Fire
There are so many genres within fantasy itself!

13th Warrior is one of my all time favs! I would not consider it fantasy though. More historical since there is no real magic.
Many good films have been mentioned. I fondly remember Dragonslayer. I also would have to through out the two Conan films for consideration. I do not like the liberties they took with the books, but as far as Sword & Sorcery goes they are two of the best (yes, Trikona you are correct).

Of course I am correct, RJ! The Conan films are up there. 13th Warrior is grand but it's almost historical action/adventure.
Let's see nobody's mentioned: Krull Hawk the Slayer--mmmm, cheese... The Sword and the Sorceror
The 80's were a good time for cheesy fantasy movies. I've seen Beastmaster more times than I can count and I have to admit the 2 sequels.
I really can't come up with a favorite. Princess Bride is up there. Does Army of Darkness fit? It's got swords and magic and monsters and stuff...it's certainly less horror than it's precusors.
Oop's works over, Yay!
