Are there any must see films anymore? Especially ones you need to see in a movie theater? This past week SG and I saw War of the Worlds and Dark Water in the theater. Both were ok, but nothing special. I definitely could have waited for the dvd or cable release for these. I really can't think of any movies that I really felt had to be seen on the big screen lately. Revenge of the Sith was close, but not essential to me. Crowds, talking people, cell phones, etc make a trip to the theater less enjoyable each time. This does not even take into account the cost of the movie and any food/drink you may want. I would much rather see a movie in the privacy of my home and eat, drink, pause the move to my hearts content. Hollywood complains about low turnout at the movies--well, if they gave us a good reason to go and made it enjoyable maybe we would...

March to see the March - March of the Penguins that is. OK, it is not a must see, but it is a fascinating 80 minutes about the emperor penguins of Antarctica. If nothing else, it is worth seeing the tenderness the penguins exhibit within one of the harshest backdrops one could imagine. Narrated by Morgan Freeman. What can be better than hearing his voice and only his voice for that length of time?

It's funny you mentioned that, Max -- I really have wanted to see that!
Every month I book photographers for travelouges and nature programs. Last year I had a photographer in her 70's show a presentation on the penguins of Patagonia. It was so fasicinating, everyone was completely mesmerized. This woman has been everywhere (and I mean everywhere!) but she said that this was one of her most cherished trips, all because these special little guys.
Watching Antartica would feel great in this heat!

Yesterday RJ and I had the pleasure of seeing [glow=red,2,300]Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest[/glow]. I love Johnny Depp, he can basically do no wrong! He's always been a non-Hollywood type, living in France and doing his own thing. It's funny that he'd star in a Disney film but if he had to pick one, this would be it! Jack Sparrow is back in all of his glorious silliness and on board as his enemy Davy Jones is none other than the great Bill Nighy. Nighy looks great in his octupus head, the special effects in this flick are absolutely amazing. The storyline is decent and steps things up nicely for a sequel. There are some great references to the first film that provide some funny moments. The theatre was packed with people of all ages. It always kills me when people bring their kids to a movie that isn't appropriate for a child of that age, they act so surprised when the kid starts screaming their head off with fright. This definetely isn't a movie for the tiny ones, folks. Like real pirates for kids.... Go to see it and don't forget to stay until after the credits... you'll get a little treat! Yo ho ho...

Just saw "3:10 to Yuma". Fabulous Western. It has everything: cowboys, indians, bad guys, good guys, marshalls, saloons, hookers, whiskey, ranchers, horses, gunfights, stagecoaches, trains, bank robbers, murderers, cowards, heroes, holdups, deserts, saddles, stirrups, cowboy hats, posses, six shooters, shotguns, rifles...
The only thing I can't remember seeing are tumbleweeds.
