Some beautiful photos. Given the role of the internet and the electronic nature of research and information access - what is the trend in building libraries? I assume they are becoming much more utilitarian rather than serene and beautiful homes of tome after tome. MQ

Those are gorgeous! I think we must be living wrong. Some beautiful photos. Given the role of the internet and the electronic nature of research and information access - what is the trend in building libraries? I assume they are becoming much more utilitarian rather than serene and beautiful homes of tome after tome. MQ Max, when they renovated my library they were most concerned with the wiring for the computers. They dug out the concrete in the floor to accomodate said wiring. I would also say that when building a new building architects will concern themselves with making the structure wireless-ready. As far as the interior design goes, there's a trend towards the industrial look -- metallic shelving, exposed pipes, hard colors. Seattle Public and Phoenix Public have both gone this route. There are still lovely libraries being built but they don't look much like they did in yesteryear.
