RJ and I are trying to eat healthier in our old age (hard to believe, but true!) but every once in a while you have to give in to the pleasurable. In this case, our meal was fairly lowfat and was quite delish!! Gibb's Meat Market has been famous in the Cleveland area for years for having wonderful homemade sausage. They carry over 100 varieties that include creative and sometimes unusual ingredients. They've just opened a new location about 2 miles from our house and we're thrilled! Every Saturday they haul out the grill and have a sausage tasting... for free! You can sample some of their great products. I loved the Chicken-Spinach-Feta sausage as well as the Chicken-Cranberry-Apple variety. They somehow know the perfect herbs and spices to add as well. RJ and I were overwelmed by the choices but finally decided to try the Chicken Ranch sausage (a great combo of chicken, bacon, tomato, a hard cheese and ranch seasoning) and Andouile (pork with corn, roasted peppers and spices). We plopped them on the grill for 12.5 minutes and presto! Perfection! Sausage is really a lovely food, I'd love to know its history. I'm so happy to live in an area where you can get different varieties, makes eating all the more of an adventure!

We are very lucky! I told my sister, who now lives in the southwest, about the sausage and she was very jealous. It seems other than chorizo there is no good homemade sausage out there. As someone wise once said--"throw another sausage on the barbie"...

Good sausage is a joy. I keep looking for anything I can buy in a local market that matches what I used to get at The Frankfurter on the west coast -- and failing. Locally, there's a good bulk sausage (for breakfast patties), Gwaltney's Reduced Fat, very tasty stuff, but the link choices here really suck. I used to eat Reser's Hot Beer Sausage, maybe I should get some of that again...

Sitting in Doha and thinking about a good pork sausage, whether breakfast or otherwise - not to be had. Maybe I'll head to Ric's Kountry Kitchen on Friday and order some "fake" breakfast sausage - or perhaps some "fake" bacon - or perhaps some "fake" ham. <sigh> MQ

No pork, Middle East, makes sense. Just think, you'll be able to partake of the pig in just a week, won't that be something? <oink!>
