I'm sure at some point or another every member here has cooked something. After working all week it can be a drag to cook on your day off, but we all have to eat, right? I guess that's one thing we all have in common for sure! I enjoy cooking when I'm not tired or rushed. I find it the perfect opportunity to listen to some good music, don't you? My question is: What type of music is your favorite to cook to?I prefer instrumental music whilst cooking, I'm not sure why but I suppose it's because I'd rather concentrate on the food preparation process itself rather than listening to lyrics. Something upbeat is always good. My faves include: Ozric Tentacles - their upbeat, ever-changing style makes for some interesting listening no matter what you're doing! California Guitar Trio - These guys are so good they don't need a vocalist! The perfect combo of quiet lows and energetic highs... Tony Levin - Tony's the bomb in any incarnation! It's hard to believe that this guy is 'just a bass player', his music is timeless. He can rock it out with the best of them and then play a meditative melody --- what a performer. Other bass players do well, too, including Jay Terrian and Michael Brook. Pink Floyd - Yeah, I know they have vocalists but some of their songs are so long the vocals are few and far between. What happens in between are gorgeous and memorable instrumentals. Who inspires you whilst creating a potable masterpiece?

It depends on if I am cooking by myself or with SG. With SG I prefer instrumental music also. That way we can talk and the music does not interfer. By myself I prefer music with lyrics. No special band--just whatever fav I am into at the moment. That way I can sing along as I cook. It makes everything more enjoyable and passes the time faster

I love to cook and I love music so this thread is especially of interest to me. It is enjoyable and motivating to listen to ethnic music while cooking same whether it be Irish, Greek, Polish, Mexican, German...well you get the idea! Good food and good music go together as do good friends to share. Complemented with [glow=red,2,300]a nice beverage [/glow]of beer, wine, saki, ale, glog, liquor, etc adds further enjoment! What do you cook when you listen to Tull? Well, last evening I made veal saltimbocca plus risotto with asparagus and yellow pepper while listening to an iPod playlist of songs from 1968 through 1972. Tull was represented in the mix. Does that count? MQ

Does that count? :-)

I know some of you must be freezing your butts and doodads off so here is a neat recipe you can enjoy this weekend.
Brown Sugar Oatmeal Pancakes INGREDIENTS 10 T quick cooking oats 1/2 C whole wheat flour 1/2 C a-p flour 1/2 t baking soda 1/2 t salt 1/3 C packed brown sugar 1 egg 2 T vegetable oil 1 C buttermilk DIRECTIONS In a small bowl, combine the oats, flours, baking soda, salt and sugar. In another small bowl, beat the egg, oil and buttermilk. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Pour batter by 1/3 cupful onto a greased hot griddle. Turn when bubbles form on top; cook until the second side is golden brown.
CRUNCHY TOPPING: 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats 1/4 cup chopped slivered almonds 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

oh yumyum! Thanks for the recipe, Bobbo! Oats are so good for you, I just finished partaking in a bowl of oatmeal this very minute. That certainly sounds like a good recipe to warm the cockles on a cold winter's morning.
