MORE FROM THE EVER-POPULAR NATURE SERIES FOR THE YOUNG The story of this crawly thing takes place in Ghana, in the heartlands of West Africa where I recently spent a few days. A group of us were visiting a poultry farm near the now famous village of Asutsuare (you have heard of it, haven't you?), when we were informed that a snake had entered one of the poultry houses and was eating freshly laid eggs (this is true!). It (the snake) was swiftly put out of its misery with a crushing blow to the head, and was laid out before us for inspection. Someone (not I!!) removed his sunglasses and laid them before the dead reptile creating a somewhat bizzare image that seemed photo-worthy at the time, so... I pulled out my trusty 945 and took this picture. The lumps running along the length of the snake are fresh eggs. The point of all of this is.... A) A dead snake needs no sunglasses. B) Never count your fresh eggs before you have dealt the snake a swift blow to the head (thats where the eyes are). C) Do not attempt to scramble a fresh snake before it has been rendered completely senseless! Stay tuned kiddies! More to come! J
