This past weekend Shutter Girl and I went to visit my sister who lives in Michigan just over the Ohio border. On Saturday we made a beer run to a place called The Andersons in Ohio. Nice beer selection BTW. As we were leaving the van in front of us was driving really really slow. As we started to get pissed off at it we realized why---the biggest rat I have ever seen was crossing the street The really weird thing was that it was crossing in the crosswalk and with the light! Damn I wish I had my camera with me.

The really weird thing was that it was crossing in the crosswalk and with the light! Damn I wish I had my camera with me. That was one of the grossest things I've ever seen in my entire life! This thing was as big as a huge raccoon. I stared at it in disbelief. I understand that rats are the most intelligent pet you can have. I think I'll pass...

I saw quite a sight at work today....
A library patron came running up to the front desk to say that there was a lone baby dear right outside the library doors. We're situated right in between the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park so we get a lot of wildlife. I walked outside to find the sweetest little deer standing on spindley legs right next to the building. He was only about 2 feet high and had the most beautiful eyes I'd ever seen.
I was afraid that his mommy had abandoned him so I call the MetroParks ranger who told me that when a doe gives birth she leaves the baby until it gets it's own scent. What an odd practice!! I felt so sorry for this little guy, he was looking everywhere for his mom. After the phone call he started walking around the perimeter of the building and settled down near the emergency room door in the children's area. He was so sweet, he stayed only a short time and then wandered off into the nearby woods. I hope he's ok now and has found his mother.
