Pac-man You need to come into the 21st century ;D What's funny is seeing the games I played way back when on the old Atari 2600 and remembering all the hours spent having fun! Then compare to today's games--the progress we have made in the last 20 years is impressive. I wonder what the next 20 will bring---Star Trek holodeck...

[quote author=RepairmanJack Pac-man You need to come into the 21st century ;D I haven't come into the 21st century on purpose. The problem is that I get highly addicted to these games. I remember once in high school I was playing some stupid primative RPG on the computer. It was a beautiful warm summer Saturday afternoon and I thought to myself, "What the hell am I doing inside?" I turned the computer off and I've sworn off of computer games ever since. I still play an occasional computer game, but it's usually something like Pac-Man or something like that that's over quickly. I did go through MYST and I'm currently going through the third iteration of MYST very VERY slowly (I've been working on it for 3 years and I only turn it on for about an hour a month when I call in to a department meeting). My other problem with the modern computer games is that they're so goddamn complicated that you need a pHD to understand the controls, or you need to play many hours to get it.

I agree with you, Stu! I tried playing Doom 3 on the PC and I can't get used to the controls. I guess I'll have to wait until it comes out on Xbox. There are a number of games I'd like to play but I'm just not coordinated enough to do it. So, I watch Joe play them instead. It's sort of like watching a videogame movie!

Games have become much more complicated today. We have had to use hint guides for several games to get through them. Also, some games are just too hard. The latest Prince of Persia game for the Xbox is like that. I gave up on it. Still, I have no desire to go back to the simplistic games of the past. The key is to have fun. Just like in the old days some games are good and some are bad--the trick is finding what you like and then playing those.

I love pacman!! I think it's one of the best games around.. any game that I can play with only one hand as I lean back and put my legs on the table gets high marks. For this reason 'Tetris' is another all time favorite of mine. Can anyone direct me to a site where I can download a good version of pacman?
Thanks Jzero

Shuttergirl and I picked up Demon Stone for the X-box yesterday. We got a really good deal on it at Best Buy. It has been fun so far to play. It is a D&D game set in the Forgotten Realms universe. Unlike some other games you do not get to choose your character to play. There is a fighter, a thief, and a sorcorer in your party and you have the ability to switch between them at any time. This really does enhance the gameplay because each character has their own special abilities. As you progress you get experience points and gold which you can use to upgrade the character's skills and equipment. The game is from the same design team that did the Lord of the Rings Two Towers game. It is real time combat and there is a lot of button mashing involved which I know does turn off some people. It does have a good storyline so far and was written by R.A. Salvatore. I don't like that you have to finish a chapter in order to save (why no save option at anytime pisses me off!), but it is still a fun game.

Still working my way through Demon Stone. I was not kidding when I said it is a button smasher! There are only 10 chapters in the game from what I have read. I finished chapters 7 and 8 today so only 2 more to go I can only play one or two chapters at a time because the extreme play takes a toll on my hands and wrists. I am having fun with it though. The lack of save points really irritates me, but not enough to quit. I really want to see the end.

Has anyone played Fable? I forgot to mention I finished the main quest in that game. If there are any RPG fans out there I recommend this game. It was not everything that was promised, but was still a kick ass game. I thought the main quest was a little too linear for my tastes. Still, there is a lot of fun to be had and a lot of freedom to decide how to do it. I really liked how every action you did had an effect either good or bad on your character and how other characters in the game reacted to you. You could get married, have sex, get drunk and throw up, buy homes or shops to live in or rent out, just to name a few of the things you could do. Also you could play the game as an evil or as a good character. This really enhances the replay value. Definitely something to pick up if you have an Xbox.

Shutter Girl and I picked up Jade Empire for the Xbox yesterday. It is a rpg by BioWare which is the same company that put out the Star Wars game Knights of the Old Republic. This game is set in ancient China. We are only about 3 hours into the game so far. It looks like it is a winner though. Mulitiple fighting styles to choose to master as well as playing the game emphasizing the open palm (good character) or closed fist (evil character) should give good replayability as well. A cautious thumbs up for now since there is a long way to go still...
