Friday night the wife and I went to the House of Blues to see Asia. Yes, Asia! I know they are a band from the 80s, but I am that old to remember. When my wife first asked if I wanted to get tickets I was not sure. I like a couple of their songs, but was not sure about seeing a whole concert. But, it the wife wants to go then we go. I am really glad we did because it turned out to be a great show! I did not realize I knew and liked so many of their songs. They played basically their whole first album, some from other albums, and some songs from other groups they played in. For those who may not know the members all played in other groups prior to Asia. And they still rock!
On drums—Carl Palmer from Emerson Lake and Palmer. One of the best prog drummers ever and he still is. Worth the price of admission just to see him!
On guitar—Steve Howe. From Yes if for some reason you did not know. And shame on you if you didn’t! Still one of the top guitarists in rock today. Worth the price of admission just to see him too!
On vocals and bass—John Wetton. He has been with a number of prog groups, but is most well known for is stint in King Crimson. His voice is still great.
On keyboards—Geoff Downs from the Buggles. I have to admit I did not know him at all. He is good, but I don’t really remember him.
A sidelight to the show. After it was over a man approached me and put a cd in my hands. He asked if I had this one yet. Before I could answer he said since I liked Porcupine Tree ( I was wearing one of their concert shirts) I would like this. Then he disappeared before I could thank him. It turned out to be a cd from a local band. I will have to give a review at a later date, but I want to give a belated thanks for it!
