Seriously, though, I have heard of Gentle Giant and have heard some stuff by them. I'll watch the DVD as soon as it's available on netflix. I watched it again today. Amazing stuff. I hope you enjoy it. The Advent of Panurge and Knots - incredible. MQ

Regarding Giant on the Box: 2, Have you heard Gentle Giant? Are you ready for odd (time signatures)? Unique? Lead guitar, bass guitar, violin, cello, trumpet, drums, keyboard, acoustic guitar, xylophone - all in one song with only 5 musicians? Kram, chime in. GG are the most progressive of all the '70's progressive bands PERIOD. Max forgot to say that they play recorders and sing in rounds! To this day, they totally blow me away. I would give nearly anything if they would have stayed together. Could you imagine the musics they would have made?! I have heard that the DVD is amazing. I did get to see a video of GG once thanks to a very kind and caring friend. They give me goosebumps! Wonder whatever happened to their 40 something year old drummer? If you were 40 in the '70's and in a rock band, you were freaking Methuselah. Be a Giant for a day!

Ok, this wasn't on dvd but it's available on dvd so...
Yesterday the Independent Film Channel showed The Band's fond farewell, The Last Waltz.
This film was highly recommended by Mr. Jzero and I have to say that it was a real treat! It's a great documentary on a band who's been around the block a few times and also an exceptional concert with incredible talent. The special guests that appear are some of the best in the biz, my favorite of course being Neil Young. Neil was at his height and performed an emotionally beautiful rendition of one of my favorite NY songs, Helpless. It was more a spiritual than a mere song that included a siren's background provided by an incognito Joni Mitchell.
I guess I hadn't realized how good The Band really was but now I've seen the error of my ways. Robbie Robertson is a gentleman guitarist and Levon Helm's powerful soul voice keeps the tunes alive forever. A band worth following and a film worth watching....

Ah yes! Well spoken Kelp!!! I first saw the Last Waltz in a movie theatre, shortly after it was first released way back when.... (1978 I think) and have watched it over and over again countless times since, first in VHS format and later in superbly remastered DVD. This is probably the best Rock-Documentry-Concert film ever made of the farewell concert of one of the finest musical groups to come out of North America (4/5 Canadian, 1/5 Arkansas farm boy). The members of The Band (those that are still alive) continue to make great music, not highly popular these days but still high calibre stuff! J

RJ and I picked up the 4 disc Live 8 dvd set and I have to say that it's really great!
The sound and picture quality are both excellent and it's really well filmed, some of the best concert camera angles I've seen. The perfomances are great and range from Joss Stone to the Who and everything in between. The Pink Floyd reunion segment is worth the price of admission alone, I think both of us got a little tear in our eyes because it was so fantastic to see them all back together again. It's a great set of concert footage and a great investment!

And the best part is no annoying announcers! It broke my heart during the live broadcast to have those two stupid announcers break in during Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb causing us to miss the last half of the song. Now I can see the entire performance of all the bands ;D

Porcupine Tree's new dvd Arriving Somewhere is out and has received a rave review in Sound and Vision magazine: www.soundandvisionmag.com/musicreviews/1854/music-pink-floyd-porcupine-tree.htmlThey give it a better rating than the new Floyd dvd, yowza!! Just found out that Mr. Fripp has been asked to play on the next PT album. You know your band has made it when Robert Fripp wants to play with you, he generally only likes PT and Tool from what I understand.
