Touya looked embarassed but Shina nodded happily an said. "Yes we have been engaged since we were both children being trained to be ninjas. Unfortunatly he vanished without a word so I've been looking ok marriages, a house husband, a panty sniffer, a playground, an affair, a book club, a convicted child molester in the neighborhood - throw them all together, mix vigorously, and you have Little Children. A wonderful and quick read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I enjoyed your Drop City comments. Thanks again for that suggestion. I've read many good books recently, but that was among the best.

Whatever happened to our book club?
Unfortunately, for the next few months it may be hard to get my hands on any selections, so maybe it is good that it is quiescent.

MQ I don't know, I guess it sort of fell to the wayside! Perhaps we can open up the discussion again the week after next when RJ and I are more able to read something. We can always get something for you and send it, Max... may take a little of the spontaneity our of it, though. I've really enjoyed discussing what we're reading, perhaps we can continue with individual reviews until such a time (a couple of weeks, perhaps?) when we can read the same book. What do you think? I need to get back into the reading mode, this might be a great thing!

What do you think? Sounds good SG. Since I will be stateside for the upcoming holiday, maybe we can select something by then and I can pick it up at B&N while home? MQ

That sounds like a good plan, Max! Let's start using our noodles and come up with some suggestions.

Cool, MQ! Are you stateside now? Stateside in another 36 hours or so, 24 of which will be spent in airports or airplanes. Always a joy. MQ

Can't complain about the power to make choices, beautiful! Welcome, Secret Garden! I hope you join us in our little discussion, we're reading The Highest Tide by Jim Lynch. We've done a couple of discussions before, it's fun and it's always nice to get new members!! BTW, your username reminds me of a song I like from Bruce Springsteen which was featured in the film Jerry Maguire; poignant and quite lovely.

For those of you interested in reading The Highest Tide, there's a good review of it on the last page of the December 4 New York Times Book Review. You can probably read it online someplace. Some of you know I've been sitting here bored out of my mind and I finally got around to reading the December 4 reviews. Is that lame or what?! I should have read all of the books I've ever wanted to read by now, there's no excuse for me not to entertain myself by reading. Looks like I'll have another 3 weeks to do it, too. So three weeks from now I should be perky, healthy and well read, don't you think?

Shutter Girl: thanks for the welcome message, and for the kind remarks on my name 'Secret Garden'. The name among other things was Bruce inspired. Looking forward to participating on the site.

I have a suggestion. Flatland by Edwin Abbot. It's short and available on Amazon for $1.50. I read it years ago and lost my copy so I ordered another and plan to read it again. It's a brilliant mixture of clever geometric mathematics and Victorian social commentary. Not sure if you mentioned this in the past or not, Stubedoo, but I just ran across this: www.flatlandthemovie.com/MQ
